Lancia Thema Hybrid on track, will get all the tech from Chrysler 300 Hybrid

Article by Christian Andrei, on January 18, 2011

As you may know already, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne announced yesterday that the company will introduce a hybrid version of the Chrysler 300 in 2013.

Fiat is currently planning to introduce a rebadged version of the Chrysler 300 dubbed Lancia Thema at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March. Now, you can draw the conclusion: Lancia Thema will also receive a hybrid version!

The new car is expected to share the same components with the Chrysler 300.

Both cars will use an 8-speed automatic transmission made by German supplier ZF but also some components and control software that Fiat's Maserati unit is currently developing for the next generation Quattroporte large sedan.

Regarding the design of the new Lancia Thema, the car will have minor tweaks such as a different grille as well as Europe-specific bumpers.

The car will go on sales in the fourth quarter of 2011 and will be available with gasoline and diesel engines. The hybrid version will follow later.

Thema sedan will not be the only premiere from the 2011 Geneva Motor Show as the manufacturer will also introduce a rebadged Chrysler 200 dubbed Lancia Flavia as well as a new version of the Lancia Ypsilon subcompact which will be based on the Fiat Panda.
