Land Rover deliveries rose in June thanks to the Range Rover Evoque

Article by Christian A., on July 18, 2012

The demand for the Range Rover Evoque SUV has been so strong that the June deliveries for Land Rover increased. Tata Motors also revealed that its Jaguar brand’s sales have declined. For the month of June, Jaguar delivered 3,829 units (a 5% drop). Meanwhile, Land Rover sales rose by 49% to 24,386 units.

Tata Motors said that the total deliveries at the British Jaguar Land Rover unit, which includes sales of the two brands, rose by 39% last month from the previous year to 28,215 units. Bloomberg News surveyed 13 analysts who came up with the average estimate of 28,658.

Based in Gaydon, England, the Jaguar Land Rover unit increased what it contributed to Tata Motors' revenue as its sales in the emerging markets had helped in offsetting the sluggish European market.

Tata Motors is planning to make an investment of 2 billion pounds or $3.1 billion in the unit this year for the development of new models and the expansion of factories to respond to the increasing demand in China and Russia.

In a separate statement, the unit has been engaged in talks with several parties about making vehicles in Brazil. CEO Ralf Speth said in an interview with The Financial Times that the company has been engaged in negotiations to build the Land Rover Freelander vehicle from kits imported from the UK to Brazil.

Serving as the inspiration of designers at Land Rover for the new Range Rover Evoque is the LRX concept car that has been praised for its new take on the classic Range Rover design cues. Thanks to Land Rover’s aptitude for design and engineering, the carmaker was able to have the Range Rover Evoque inherit the spirit of the LRX concept, sans any compromise in the areas of performance, all-terrain capability and cabin luxury.

Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern called the new Range Rover Evoque as a bold evolution of the Range Rover design as it remains faithful to the core Range Rover values while employing new interpretation of design cues of the classic Range Rover. He remarked that the new Evoque features a dynamic profile, thanks to its rising beltline, muscular shoulder, and a characteristic taper to its roofline. It also features a sporty and purposeful stance as well as sculpted corners that help reduce its visual overhangs both on the front and rear. In addition, the new Range Rover Evoque features wide wheelarches that are softly integrated into its solid body.

The expressive exterior of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is well matched by a stylishly designed and luxurious interior laden with premium quality materials.
