It was announced today that the 2012 Bmw 6-Series Gran Coupe will carry a base price of 79,500 euros ($103,484). The 640d Gran Coupe s priced from 83,000 euros ($108,045), and comes with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line petrol engine delivering 230 kW/313 hp and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) at 1,500 – 2,500 rpm.

With these numbers, the 640d Gran Coupe can accelerate from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph or 250 km/h. The fuel consumption is low and Bmw promises 5.5 – 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (49.6 – 50.4 mpg imp).

As expected, the most expensive model will be the 650i Gran Coupe, which will carry a price tag of 92,600 euros ($120,542). The all-wheel drive version of the 650i Gran Coupe will cost 96,000 euros ($124,975).

This models comes with the impressive 4.4-liter biturbo V8 engine delivering 330 kW/450 hp and 650 Nm / 479 lb-ft at 2,000 – 4,500 rpm. This model can accelerato from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Exterior Design

Looking at its side, it’s impressive how BMW made use of the elegant and low lines on the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe. While the passenger compartment has been made lower, it is accompanied with a low look that is stretched smoothly.

This is due to the fact that the silhouette of the window has been extended more to its C-pillar. Helping emphasize that it is a sporty coupe are the frameless door windows. The way the side windows have been extended optimizes the light that goes in the interior and thus improves the feeling of space.

Then there is that distinguishing Hofmeister kink that goes to the C-pillar which includes the Gran Coupe lettering that has been embossed just at the back of the glass on the lower corners of its rear windows.

With this, the 6-Series Gran Coupe is able to show its personality and attractive elegance. Meanwhile on the front section, the use of chrome elements not only divides the fog lights from the air intake but also helps highlight the strong resolve that this model exhibits. It comes with the dual round Xenon headlights, for both the low and high beams, as standard.

In addition, it has three-dimensional rings with LED that is expected from a BMW model and gives it that functional and distinct light architecture, excellent especially for driving at night.

BMW is offering as an option the Adaptive LED Headlights where the light rings have been made a bit flat at its bottom and top. The low and high beams themselves are created using LED units that had been placed on the horizontal ribs on each of its light rings. This results in them projecting the light on the reflectors.

Indeed, the new 6-Series Gran Coupe displays a good mix of exceptional visuals as it has the dynamics expected from a Coupe with the functional versatility offered by a four-door vehicle.

In terms of dimension, overall length is at 5,007 mm, with width at 1,894 mm, height of 1,392 mm. Without a doubt, the proportions of this new offering are truly identified with BMW given the long bonnet with its strong curves, the gracefulness of its wheelbase which has been extended to 2,968 mm, and the passenger compartment that has been set-back.

It is clear that when it comes to a four-door vehicle’s design, it is able to set new standards with the flat roofline and low height that flows sleekly to the rear section. The low center of gravity, when combined with the V-shaped and horizontal lines seen on the rear end, hints at its dynamic elegance and power. It’s also unique how this third brake light goes all the way to the whole rear window’s width and thus shapes its top edge.
