A video has been released of the 7:14.64 run of the Lexus LFA, equipped with the Nurburgring Package, at the Nordschleife. Akira Iida handled this car, which featured the Nurburgring Package’s standard Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires. It has achieved numerous wins, one of which is its practicality for tasks like shopping. It outperforms rivals like the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7:18), Corvette ZR-1 (7:19.63) and the Nissan GT-R (7:24).
There may be some people who still don’t understand just how amazing the LFA is. The bottom line is that it’s a highly exclusive vehicle that is actually an engineering masterpiece with a complicated manufacturing process.
Commenting on the result, Iida said: “We are delighted with this achievement. Our on-going development of the LFA and our recent outings at the Nürburgring 24 Hour race have enabled us to continue to tune the vehicle. The result with the LFA Nürburgring Package shows the car’s ultimate performance and agility. This is a first activity of its type for Lexus and the constant effort of the team has brought this fantastic result.”
The 2-seater Lexus LFA sports car went through a performance check in Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany on the 31st of August in 2011. The said test on Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package is conducted in line with its upcoming production in 2012.
The performance check package is designed to promote superior performance on the racetrack and also includes modifications for the unit based on the LFA standards.
On the other hand, the LFA Nürburgring Package is counted among the 500-production lineup of the LFA. It offers a CFRP front spoiler with fixed air wings, LFA custom wheels and LFA racing suspensions.
Unlike LFA’s standard output of 560PS (412kW), the Nürburgring Package has a reported output increase to 571PS (420kW). Akira Iida, LFA’s test driver (who also happens to be a professional racecar driver) tests the LFA Package along the North Loop, which is located somewhere in Nordschliefe. Using LFA approved Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres, the extensive performance test came up with a record-breaking 7:14.64 lap time.
As Nürburgring’s Automotive COO Dr. Schmidt specified in a statement how it is usually very special for them if the car is developed under the requirements of the Nürburgring- Nordschleife. It only means that the company has an important place in the automotive world. By all means, the Lexus’ LFA Nürburgring Package met the highly challenging standards of Nordschleife. The excellent lap time only shows how a supercar like Lexus has once again met the challenges of the racetrack.
Every year since the spring and summer in 2004, the LFA Chief Engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi recalled how they have been conducting LFA’s test procedures at the Nordschleife. He also said that this type of evaluation program is also what they refer to as the LFA Nürburgring Package.
Tanahashi reiterated that everyone’s happy with the opportunities it has brought to them particularly to Nürburgring and also with the way the vehicles are developed in the LFA. Nonetheless, it’s the team’s passion and Iida’s devotion to his craft that brought them to where they are now.
On final note, Akira Iida once again expressed his thoughts on the result of the test saying how they all appreciate this achievement. As a matter of fact, the 24-hour races and on-going tests on the LFA have helped them adjust the car perfectly for an outstanding performance. This is the first time for Lexus to participate in such an activity and the amazing result is indeed a product of their teamwork.
