Before releasing the pricing details, Lexus gives us a rundown of the features of its new Sport Package for the 2010 LS. Enhancements were made at the outside as well as the interior. The top-of-the-range rear-wheel drive model is equipped with an upgraded suspension, 19-inch wheels and a redesigned body kit for a sportier look.
Buyers may opt for this feature separately in the Appearance Package. On the other hand, the 2010 Lexus LS boasts to have upgraded exterior styling, which consists of a reshaped grille and redesigned headlights and taillights.
For its interior, there is a new option the pedestrian avoidance system. If you're behind the wheel and feeling a bit tired, there's the optional driver warning system that monitors the driver's eyes for signs of tiredness.
Toyota 's all-wheel drive system will be installed on the Lexus LS sedans. At the core of this system is a highly compact center TORSEN Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) that distributes drive torque between the front and rear wheels.
Toyota's press release had stated that in normal driving conditions, the front and rear torque distribution ratio is set at a rear-bias 40:60, "but it can instantly and optimally vary between 30:70 and 50:50 depending on driving conditions." This feature helps ensure excellent traction performance and driving stability.
For the AWD versions, what comes as standard are the following: 18-inch wheels with all-season tires, a wood and leather-trimmed heated steering wheel and power rear sunshade for added luxury.
Leather is an integral part of the interiors of the LS 460, when infused with the optional Sport Package. Leather is used for the trim in the steering wheel, as well as the paddle shifters used in the car’s eight-speed automatic transmission. Air suspension is a standard with the LS 460; however, they have options when they choose the all-wheel drive version of the vehicle.
They can, for instance, opt to have an Adaptive Variable Suspension, a feature that makes use of an onboard computer to make adjustments to shock absorber damping to enhance handling and comfort. On the other hand, the optional Variable Gear-Ratio Steering function picks steering gear ratios that are appropriate for specific speeds.
With the VGRS system in place, drivers can have a more responsive vehicle in their hands no matter how fast they may be driving. In case of difficult driving conditions, the VGRS works together with the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management – the VDIM automatically adjusts steering to make the LS 460 easier to handle in difficult roads.
The LS 460’s cabin also features excellent acoustics. The soundproof nature of the cabin was made possible by an extensive study conducted by the engineers behind the vehicle. The results of the study allowed engineers to make tune-ups to the doors and even to the acoustics of the onboard motors. In addition, the use of laminated side glass for the windshields filters out noise coming from the environment.
