Maro Engel is the new instructor from the AMG Driving Academy

Article by Christian A., on May 10, 2012

Maro Engel, who used to be a DTM driver, is now a part of the driver support program from AMG Customer Sports and is the newest member of the AMG Driving Academy's team of instructors. Engel, who is now 26 years old, instantly becomes a new AMG brand ambassador who will get to impart his expertise as a racing driver.

Included in his duties are as instructor for the AMG Driving Academy and as support for certain SLS AMG GT3 customer teams. Engel can also be booked by SLS AMG GT3 customer teams for test or racing sessions. By doing this, Engel is supporting his colleagues Bernd Schneider and Thomas Jäger, who have stayed with the SLS AMG GT3 for its entire development and testing program and who can also be booked by customer teams.

Engel will also now serve as point of contact at press and customer events. However, Engel said that he will continue to be actively involved on location at race tracks. He will join forces with Bernd Schneider and Thomas Jäger, who are part of the AMG Driving Academy's core team, together with Bernd Mayländer (who drives the official F1 Safety Car), Karl Wendlinger and Susie Wolff (the current DTM driver for Mercedes-Benz).

According to Maro Engel: "I am looking forward to some new and exciting roles with AMG. As a brand ambassador and instructor, I will pass on my motorsports know-how to customers of the AMG Driving Academy. And as part of the driver support team at AMG customer sports events in particular, I am also looking forward to passing on my four years of experience as a Mercedes-Benz DTM driver to AMG customer teams, as well as being able to climb into the cockpit of the SLS AMG GT3 myself."
