Although a report from Automotive News stated that Maybach future is in doubt, it appears that the folks from Automobile Magazine found out something new. According to them, the Maybach brand is actually profitable (on paper), although a maximum of 300 vehicles are sold per year.
Now, the word is that Daimler Joachim Schmidt, recently brought from Far East to run company’s sales and marketing, sees new opportunities for this exclusive brand on big markets such as China, North America, Middle East and Russia.
As you may know already, the current generation is based on the old Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but the new Maybach cars will use the new platform which will be used on the 2012 model.
Also, the range will be extended and Maybach will receive a four-door coupe as well as a long-wheelbase convertible. It is believed that all the models will be powered by the same 6.0-liter V12 engine delivering over 600 hp and mated to a nine (9)-speed automatic transmission.
And the big surprise: Maybach will also offer a hybrid model, which will share the same technology with the upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Hybrid.
