Mazda introduces MX-5 Venture Edition, available in Roadster Coupe, Soft-top

Article by Christian A., on February 17, 2012

Mazda has launched its 'MX-5 Venture Edition' -- a new special edition of its popular sportscar. It features upgraded luxurious specification, premium interior trim, advanced technology and exterior colors exclusive to the Mazda MX-5 Venture Edition. The Venture is based on the Mazda MX-5 SE and Sport Tech models.

It is available as a 1.8 MZR Soft top (SE) and a 2.0 MZR Roadster Coupe (Sport Tech), featuring the quickest powered retractable hard top in the world, down or up in only 12 seconds. It also comes with a dozen items of additional equipment over the donor automobile. It is priced at £18,995 and £22,285 (OTR). The 'stand out' specification of the Mazda MX-5 Venture Edition includes front fog lights, light gun metal 17-inch alloy wheels, piano black fashion bars, special 'Venture Edition' badging and chrome front grille.

The interior of the MX-5 Venture has modish Havana Brown heated leather seats, leather steering wheel and hand brake with contrasting grey stitching, climate control air-conditioning, matching door trim, alloy pedals, piano black dashboard accents, and cruise control, which is a first on 1.8 models. It also comes with a satellite navigation system, a first on the MX-5.

The sat-nav, which is supplied by Sanyo TomTom, showcases a fully integrated 5.8-inch touch screen monitor, live services, 4GB SD card based map (45 countries), complete multi-media functionality and iPod and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Mazda MX-5 Venture will come in a selection of three colors, the popular Metropolitan Grey Mica and two exclusive colors to the MX-5 special edition -- the Crystal White Pearlescent and Radiant Ebony Mica -- free of charge.  There will only be 550 Venture Edition Roadster Coupe units and 250 Venture Edition Soft-top units available in the UK -- making the model a truly special edition variant.

Moreover, customers can choose from two powertrains for their Mazda MX-5 Venture Edition -- the 160ps 2.0 MZR with a six-speed smooth-shifting manual transmission (Roadster Coupe) and the 126ps 1.8 MZR with a five-speed gearbox (Soft-top).

Also, the Venture Edition combines razor sharp handling with lively performance just like other MX-5 models. It accelerates to 60mph in 9.9sec from a standstill for the 1.8 Soft-top variant, with top speed of 121mph. Meanwhile, the 2.0 Roadster Coupe can sprint to 60mph from a standstill in 7.9sec, reaching a top speed of 136mph
