The McLaren MP4-12C will have a starting price of $229,000. This price is right on top of the Ferrari 458 Italia sticker, but it doesn’t include a destination charge or a gas guzzler tax that has yet to be determined. Antony Sheriff, Managing Director, McLaren Automotive Limited, said that the company had set out to offer a “unique concept” to the market as a vehicle that’s just “as good” as its rival won’t be good enough.
He added that McLaren has achieved its performance and design objectives for the 12C, which features technologically advanced MonoCell carbon-fiber chassis, highly efficient yet powerful 3.8-liter 592-horsepower powerplant, a dry weight of less than 2900 lbs.
He also said that the company is particularly proud for setting the price of the 12C at a level not reached by a carbon fiber-based vehicle before. There are currently only 35 McLaren dealerships around the world, and 10 of those located in North America.
Those North American dealerships are in Beverly Hills, Chicago, Dallas, Greenwich, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Toronto, and Miami. The new ones on the list are Philadelphia and Newport Beach, putting three of the 10 North American dealerships in California. The 2012 McLaren MP4-12C will be offered in late summer 2011 as a 2012 model.
The new McLaren MP4-12C comes with a new door entry system that features a small button mounted on each door, thereby replacing the touch sensor system. This change was made to simplify the user experience. However, drivers could still unlatch each door using the 12C key fob.
McLaren also improved the headlight activation settings of the MP4-12C by having the headlights automatically switch on when the windshield-mounted rain sensor detects rain. However, this only functions when the 'AUTO-lights' mode is selected.
Moreover, all MY2013 McLaren MP4-12C will feature a modified Climate Control System. While still featuring the standard 'AUTO' mode, the new McLaren MP4-12C will have an 'AUTO LO' functionality that allows the desired cabin temperature to be achieved using lower fan speeds, ergo in the quietest method allowable.
Of course, customers will be given a chance by McLaren Automotive to personalize their MP4-12C to suit their tastes and preference. For instance, the McLaren MP4-12C could be wrapped in any of the optional 'Elite' paint finishes, including the stunning Volcano Yellow high quality paint finish, which promises to be as visually convincing spectacular as the Volcano Orange and Volcano Red finishes.
Moreover, McLaren will soon offer a new wheel design and wheel finish to boost its several wheel designs already available. For instance, a customer may avail of the new 5-spoke lightweight-forged wheel in any of the available finishes that include Standard Silver, optional Stealth and Diamond Cut.
New forged wheel designs are also available. Interestingly, the Diamond Cut wheel finish is initially finished in Graphite Grey, then diamond-cut so as to expose its forged metal surface. Then, the entire wheel is finished in a protective coat for a higher quality gloss.
For the 2013 model year, McLaren Automotive came up with an exclusive new McLaren MP4-12C interior trim that boasts of higher quality and more naturally textured leather than the currently available optional trim.
This new trim will apply exclusive semi-aniline leather on all major interior surfaces like seats, doors, dash and the center console. Moreover, this new interior option features flat piping around the perimeter of the seat as well as along the edge of the door card insert.
