McLaren MP4-12C supercar priced from €200,000 in Europe

Article by Christian A., on November 26, 2010

McLaren’s MP4-12C has a starting price of £168,500 (including 20% VAT) when it starts selling in the UK next year. This isn’t quite affordable but the new supercar undercuts the Ferrari 458 Italia by £1045 (2010 price with 17.5% VAT).

So far, McLaren has received more than 2,700 pre-orders. The MP4-12C is powered by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with 447 kW (600 bhp / 608 PS) and 599 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque.

It is equipped with a seven-speed "Seamless Shift" double-clutch transmission, enabling the vehicle to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in less than 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 300 km/h (186 mph).

Antony Sheriff, Managing Director of McLaren Automotive said: "When we embarked on this challenge to design, develop, build, sell, and service the world's most exciting and high-quality high-performance sports cars - from a brand new factory at our Formula One headquarters - we knew expectations would be high.

To deliver a true McLaren sports car, and, frankly, a reason to exist amongst great competition, it was clear we needed a unique concept that offered tangible advantages.

With a unique carbon chassis as the foundation, and a powerful, but highly efficient McLaren engine at its heart, the 12C offers staggering value: no other carbon-based car can compete at this price-point, or with the 12C's technology and performance.
