Back in March, McLaren unveiled the 650S Coupe and Spider, the models that replace the 12C Coupe and Spider. Just like it did with the 12C, McLaren Special Operations decided to upgrade the recently introduced 650S. As a result, the first images with the new MSO 650S Coupe Concept were released today and as expected, the vehicle showcases the MSO-designed engineered upgrades available for the McLaren 650S Coupe and 650S Spider.
As you can see from the photos, the MSO 650S Coupe Concept comes with plenty of bespoke MSO features such as a newly designed carbon fibre rear diffuser and MSO-branded carbon fibre side blades. The vehicle is finished in Agrigan Black, a metallic black paint developed in-house with a deep ruby red metallic flake.
As expected, the paint shows a colour change in direct sunlight and it is complemented by the carbon fiber highlights, such as the prominent front splitter and air intakes, as well as MSO carbon fibre side blades and the unique MSO rear diffuser. Comparing them with those found on the standard model, the MSO side blades are a more aggressive, full length, interpretation of the door blades seen on the 650S Coupe and Spider models.
The blades are finished in satin and improve the airflow along the edges of the bodywork. At the rear, there is a GT3-inspired rear bumper fitted with a carbon fibre centre section, and the lightweight material carries through to the carbon fibre airbrake and unique MSO rear diffuser. Furthermore, the engine bay also received a satin black engine cover and a satin finish to all carbon fibre parts.
MSO also added special satin black finished lightweight ‘650S’ alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. Inside, the concept comes with fixed-back carbon fibre racing seats based on the lightweight design found in the McLaren P1, finished in carbon black leather. The new seats offer a weight saving of 15 kg.
The interior also includes satin carbon fibre features enhanced by the switchgear and bezels that are finished in contrasting gloss black. If you liked the new accessories from MSO, you’d better know that the new side blades and rear diffuser are available to order now from McLaren retailers and cost £5,114 ($8,615) and £7,245 ($12,205) respectively for a new 650S.
What’s more interesting is that these accessories can also be fitted on the discontinued 12C. For those who don’t know, the McLaren 650S is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 650 hp and 678 Nm of torque. Bolted to a 7-speed DSG transmission, the engine pushes the 650S Coupe from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.4 seconds and to 300 km/h (186 mph) in 25.4 seconds.
Top speed is limited at 333 km/h or 207 mph. In addition, the McLaren 650S Coupe runs the ¼ mile (400 m) in 10.5 seconds @ 224 km/h (139 mph). Pricing for the McLaren 650S Coupe starts at £195,250, with the 650S Spider starting at £215,250. [source: McLaren]
