Mercedes-Benz brings Viano Vision Diamond to Beijing Motor Show

Article by Anita Panait, on April 24, 2012

Mercedes-Benz will unveil its Viano VISION DIAMOND superlative show car at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, slated from April 25 to May 2, 2012. The Viano VISION DIAMOND features a black radiator grille, two-tone exterior paint job and chromed grille louvers.  The car also features two body colors, black and diamond white, separated by a fine, sparkling gold line, with a painted diamond adorning the B-pillar.

Mercedes-Benz also used black and diamond white on the rims of the five-spoke wheels, with the brakes sporting the “Mercedes-Benz” words in gold. The classy luxury diamond looks of the exterior is carefully extended to the interior. Passengers in the rear could well enjoy the extravagance of the car, highlighted by a special innovative multimedia unit that allows passengers to select between a business setting and a comfortable ambience.

The Mercedes-Benz Viano VISION DIAMOND showcases windows -- passenger compartment windows, rear windows, and passenger-chauffeur glass partition -- that are equipped with the Magic Sky Control system, allowing passengers to change interior lighting conditions with a single button push.  The Magic Sky Control system also allows the passenger to change the color of the windows, made possible by a liquid contained in the window glass that reacts to the changes in electric current.

The chauffeur’s area is covered with black finish, with the seats and door, as well as the instrument panel, the steering wheel, the gearshift, and the A- and B-pillars being covered with the finest nappa leather.

In contrast, the passenger compartment is covered in porcelain white – including the carpet, seats, safety belts and the ceiling. The passenger compartment is laden with two top-of-the-line seating accommodations equipped with heating and cooling as well as massage features. Aside from the cup holders, there are Champagne glass holders for the model’s silver Champagne flutes, which automatically appear at the push of a button. The side paneling of the car also has five bottle holders.

For the Viano Ambiente, Mercedes-Benz made sure that not only would the established lines be redefined. It also made sure to overhaul some of its equipment packages. In previous iterations, this model has highlighted a wide range of equipment. With the new model, the Bi-Xenon headlamps are now equipped as standard. The same is true for the LED daytime driving lights, cornering lights, and headlamp washer system. Fitted as standard as well are the light-alloy wheels with the 7Jx17-sized tires. In designing the interior, the team made sure to pay close attention to the various details. This is seen in the different minor features like for example the inside handle of its sliding door.

Since it has been placed in a new position, it makes it readily accessible while ensuring that the amount of effort needed to open it is lowered. Meanwhile the rear seats are fitted to the rails and have rubber lips. Doing so helps give the floor a more elegant look and makes the removal and installation of seats easier.

For the Viano Trend and the Viano Ambiente, the core principle that runs its lighting concept is the ambient lightning system. This feature though is optional under the Viano Fun. Overall, the floor of the Viano is illuminated with six light sources placed on the footwell. Once the vehicle is in motion, these lights are dimmed. There are also extra interior lights placed on the handle recesses in the rear section.

The ambient lighting of the interior also has the fiber-optic cables. These additional lights are able to subtly light up the handle recesses once the vehicle is already in motion. Combined with the lighting in the footwell, these helps the atmosphere of the interior have that cozy and stylish feel. In addition, the lighting of the interior has been integrated with the handle recesses as well as the reading lights, both of which can be individually operated. The reading lights come in a clear-glass look and adding in a chrome ring results in that elegant look.
