In Mercedes-Benz’s ad for the new 2014 CLA, the automaker let it slip that it will soon release a CLA45 AMG. It had already been expected that the company was developing an AMG version of the CLA. The four-door coupe has the same underpinnings as the A-Class so it can be presumed that the uprated, direct-injected 2.0-liter turbo-four from the upcoming A45 AMG will also be used in the CLA.
In the A45, this engine has an output of 350 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. So it’s probable that the CLA45 will have similar or even identical figures. The AMG suite is also offered with a specially-tuned 4Matic all-wheel drive system that could deliver as much as 60% of the power to the rear wheels. This represents a major dynamic advantage for the normally front-wheel-drive A- and CLA-Class.
These powertrain revisions lead to an excellent performance. As a result, the vehicle can accelerate from zero to 62mph in 4.6 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 155 mph. But with an optional performance package, it can reach 175 mph. This package will be dubbed as an S-Model version, similar to the 2014 E63 AMG. If you think that the new CLA45 AMG has some similarities with the CLS 63 AMG, you are not mistaken. The main reason is that Mercedes-AMG utilized the CLA’s design language and then improved it with a number of qualities AMG is known for. For example, the CLA’s athletic proportions have always been present. This dynamic appearance though is highlighted by adding in the “twin blade” AMG radiator grille and cross strut on the front apron of the AMG, both having matt titanium grey paint.

When looked at from the rear, the CLA45 AMG reveals that unique AMG rear apron. The apron itself shows that the sides do have air outlets while at the same revealing a large diffuser insert and matt titanium grey trim section.
Still on the rear section, the sports AMG exhaust system has a pair of twin tailpipes plated in chrome. Mixed with the exhaust flap, it helps put focus even further on the dynamic appeal of this vehicle.
On the rear, tail lights utilize LED are included as standard. The interior of the CLA45 AMG has everything one could expect. That is, the use of high-grade materials is clear, excellent quality, and the exclusivity and dynamism related to Mercedes-AMG. Its sports seats come in either DINAMIC microfiber or the ARTICO man-made leather. The seats have red seat belts and red contrast top stitching.
Included as standard are the AMG door sill panels, AMG DRIVE UNIT, and the multi-function steering wheel which comes with shift paddles. Meanwhile, the galvanized five ventilation outlets are able to complement the instrument panel’s brushed aluminum trim.
