Mercedes-Benz expects some impressive sales in January

Article by Christian A., on January 31, 2011

Although the official results did not appear, Daimler expects that its Mercedes-Benz luxury brand to show an increase in January sales. These words came from Mercedes-Benz sales chief Joachim Schmidt at an event in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart. Schmidt also said that he hopes to see double-digit growth again in January.

Moreover, he added that the company had positive sales growth in China, despite the introduction of restrictions on new vehicle registrations in Beijing in January.

Still, Daimler does not expect to see some impressive sales for the ultra compact Smart-branded cars. For those who don’t know, Smart sales declined to about 97,500 units last year, and according to Schmidt the company expects to see a drop in sales to around 90,000 Smart cars in 2011.

And the bad news continue for the Smart brand as the new model will not come on to the market until 2012 at the earliest.

Regarding 2011, Daimler expects to be a record year for sales. CEO Dieter Zetsche also said earlier this month that the German manufacturer’s luxury brand Mercedes-Benz would supply more cars around the world than ever before. [via autonews - sub. required]
