If BMW unveiled the M4 Concept Iconic Lights, Mercedes-Benz wanted to surprise everyone with a self-driving luxury sedan and unveiled at 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) the F 015 Luxury in Motion Concept. What’s surprising about the new vehicle is that it can change from a means of transportation to a private retreating space.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the F 015 Luxury in Motion Concept is a vision of the future, when mega-cities with more than 10 millions inhabitants will increase from 30 to over 40.
Offering a lounge-like interior, the Luxury in Motion Concept features a variable seating system with four rotating chairs that allow a face-to-face seat configuration.
This means that the passengers will be able to use their time aboard to work, relax or communicate. As soon as the doors are opened, the electrically powered seats swing outwards by 30 degrees in order to make getting in and out of the car easier.
Six display screens are integrated into the instrument panel as well as the rear and side panels, which transform the interior into a digital arena.
Dr Zetsche: "Already two years ago, with the S 500 INTELLIGENT DRIVE we showed on the historical route Bertha-Benz took in 1888 that we have the technology which makes autonomous driving reality in everyday traffic. We have a master plan in place to take the big leap required getting from technically feasible to commercially viable. The F 015 Luxury in Motion demonstrates where this may take us."
