Mercedes-Benz planning super-luxury Maybach versions of GL-Class, S-Class Coupe, MLC

Article by Christian A., on July 3, 2014

We already know that the Maybach name will be revived through an exclusive version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class that will be unveiled later this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Still, it appears that Mercedes-Benz will not stop here and according to Motoring , the German manufacturer is also planning a super-luxury version of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.

As expected, the new GL-Class will receive styling tweaks as well as a luxury makeover, but also the latest technologies introduced on the S-Class such as the Magic Body Control semi-active suspension and Curve Tilting.

Dr. Thomas Weber, a member of the Mercedes-Benz in charge or research and development confirmed the fact that something new is coming, but didn’t want to give too many details.

"First of all it's clear that we stop the old Maybach. [But] There is still a good brand image linked to Maybach – so stay tuned to what we plan to do with this brand," he said.

The new Maybach version of the GL-Class could be the perfect rival for cars such as the upcoming SUVs from Bentley and Lamborghini. Key markets for such a vehicle would definitely be the Middle East, Russia and the United States of America.

If everything goes according to plans, we might also see Maybach variants of the S-Class Coupe or the new MLC-Class.
