Article by Andrew Christian, on July 4, 2014

Mercedes-Benz introduced installed its new 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission on the 2015 CLS Facelift but it appears that it will soon install it on other models as well. The next model to get it is the S500 Coupe with rear wheel drive.

For those who still don’t know, the two-door coupe is powered by a 4663 cc V8 biturbo engine that generates 455 hp (335 kW) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm.

The Mercedes-Benz S500 Coupe is currently available with the 7G-TRONIC Plus transmission. Mercedes-Benz says that the 9G-TRONIC transmission is lighter, more fuel-efficient and can handle up to 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque.
