Mercedes-Benz unveils its light-alloy wheels for the 2013 warm season

Article by Christian Andrei, on April 9, 2013

With the changes in the season, Mercedes-Benz Accessories is making sure that its customers are prepared. It is presenting different new wheels for warmer temperatures, including a set of very appealing light-alloy wheels. It also offers several wheels in the sporty 19-inch size as well as those that feature a high-sheen finish, for multiple current model series.

The high-sheen light-alloy wheels are more attractive due to the contrast between the bare metal surface and the painted areas. They give the vehicle a more exclusive look, something that Mercedes-Benz designers believe will leave a lasting impression and won’t just be a fad. These light-alloy wheels improve the vehicle’s looks as well as its safety.

The wheels have been developed specifically for a model when it comes to stress, strain and dimensions. Before the light-alloy wheels are deemed suitable for use, they are subjected to a comprehensive development and testing programme. During the program, each wheel design has to pass different rigorous tests in accordance with strict Mercedes-Benz guidelines.

All of these are more stringent than the statutory requirements. These test methods are particularly meant to simulate the difficulties met in actual situations such as in road traffic. The materials are studied with the use of state-of-the-art x-ray systems.

For example, the high-sheen wheels are subjected to tests that involve being exposed to very corrosive salt spray or a 28-day alternating climate programme, for instance. These wheels have to pass all of the tests to be included in the Mercedes-Benz genuine light-alloy wheels range.
