Mercedes-Benz @yourCOMAND shows us how the future looks like

Article by Christian A., on October 31, 2011

The @yourCOMAND system from Mercedes-Benz had recently made its debut in the F125! Concept and already, it has captured the interest of consumers. This system, which features a permanent internet connection with seamless access to "the cloud,” is targeted at people who want to be connected 24/7. The @yourCOMAND system is remarkably complex as it fuses several distinctive features to make life easier.

These include being able to remote program the navigation / climate control system (from your smartphone) and operating key functions through hand gestures.

Production of the @yourCOMAND is expected to start within a few years but Mercedes is planning to present a new COMAND system in mid-2012. This system is designed for iPhone owners. When a phone is connected, users can download an app that sends information to the vehicle display to offer easy access through the COMAND controller.

But non-iPhone owners shouldn’t be jealous since Mercedes is planning to support the MirrorLink standard used by Nokia, HTC and Samsung. In addition, NFC support will be there so that it would be easier to pair phones to the infotainment system. It doesn’t need a device search and you don’t have to enter a pass code. These two new technologies will be launched in 2013.

To mark its 125th-year in the automobile industry, Mercedes Benz created a concept vehicle that will showcase the brand’s futuristic ideas in terms of luxury car manufacturing. The Mercedes Benz F125 bears the design and technical qualities of a premium-class automobile. The hydrogen-powered F125 highlights the possibilities of H2 as the next alternative source of energy. The new concept model carries the brand’s major objective in promoting zero-emission driving technology.

So far, the previously showcased concept cars have the advanced technologies that no one had ever thought about yet. That’s what concept cars are here for anyway. The imaginative minds involved in the research and development make cars at least seven to eight years ahead of our time. What’s so amazing about Mercedes’ latest concept though, is that the F125 model would take us far into the future. In other words, just imagine what cars would look like in the year 2025 and there you have it.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber believes that the 125-year anniversary concept car will showcase the impressive characteristics of a futuristic saloon. Daimler AG’s board member also said that aside for safety, comfort and spaciousness, the F125 runs with zero emissions.

So as much as the legendary S-Class keeps evolving from then until now, Mercedes Benz’s intelligent solutions keep up with today’s consumer demands. Thus, the new concept vehicle bears the brand’s key elements in terms of performance and design among many others.

The most convincing innovations on Mercedes’ F125 include the lithium-sulphur technology (for the batteries), Hydrogen storage unit and the fuel cell drive system combined with plug-in technology. These have all been used in the 4-seater concept saloon.

"@yourCOMAND turns the car into a mobile communications centre that provides the driver and passengers with access to all modern media and services at all times", says Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. "Thanks to the consistently cloud-based solution, we can also uncouple from the established vehicle development cycles and are at eye level with the rapid developments in the world of consumer electronics. We can therefore always provide our customers with access to the latest applications for fully fledged in-car connectivity."
