Mercedes-Benz’s latest B-Class iPad Brochure app is a first for showrooms

Article by Christian A., on April 17, 2012

The latest B-Class iPad Brochure app from Mercedes-Benz is a first for the showroom environment. It features the newest in augmented reality with full-scale experience layers information directly on the vehicle itself. The interactive app utilizes iPad's ability to inform and to entertain. With this app, the B-Class can come to life for prospective B-Class buyer to explore.

Those who are looking for a visual kick, the model lines section enables a convenient and fast way to compare the SE trim with the Sport 'slide by slide' from three exterior angles. One can see thousands of personalization choices by using the configurator. There are many customer-specific interior and exterior color choices, design specification additions, wheel options and trim line options.

App users can save and share their ideal B-Class. A handy Retailer Locator tool will direct them to the nearest retailer if they wish to learn more or explore further into the augmented reality in the comfort of their local showroom. The app has every feature which a potential B-Class buyer could wish to learn about the new model such as price list as well as all the information seen in a conventional paper brochure.

The app has a COMAND Online section wherein users can read an easy-to-understand guide to the class-leading multimedia onboard computer from Mercedes-Benz.

Load space animations are also available, providing an educational and playful method to demonstrate the various load compartment options. As a sample, users can watch how convenient a washing machine or bicycle fits into the vehicle. The app is downloadable at mercedes-benz.co.uk and at the Apple App Store.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class makes use of high quality materials as well as the surfaces that are finely structured. Stylish details can be observed as well and precision workmanship is evident. The interior also offers a large amount of space. All of these different features mean that the B-Class is able to set new standards for the compact class.

Looking closer, one is likely to see that the sitting positions have been more upright. This is, of course, in response to the requests made by its many customers. Without the sliding roof, the maximum headroom in the front is 1,047 mm, making the new B-Class one of the most spacious models for its class. In addition to being more upright, the sitting position is also more ergonomic.

Combined with the fact that the floor in the rear has been lowered, legroom of 976 mm is indeed the best for its segment. This figure shows it is even better than the S-Class or the E-Class.

That the new B-Class has that dynamic quality is highlighted by the concept version. Aside from having a lower height at 1,557 mm, this new version is nearer to the road compared to the previous model by 5 cm. With the height of the seat lowered by 86 mm relative to the road, boarding is made easier. Further, it helps give a better view of the curves present in this model.

Being offered by Mercedes-Benz as an option with the B-Class is the EASY-VARIO-PLUS system. What this system does is allow the interior to be adjusted in order to allow for bulky items to be transported.

One feature of this system is that the rear seats can be adjusted forward or backwards by as much as 140 mm. With this, the volume of the luggage compartment can be increased from 488 liters to 666 liters. In addition, the backrest of the front passenger seat can be folded to the seat cushion thus increasing space as well.
