MG Motor has released the first official drafts of the Icon, the company's latest concept vehicle. This compact SUV is dubbed AS21. It will be revealed at the Beijing car show next week. Furthermore, the concept has been said to preview a forthcoming production model to be launched in 2014 for the Chinese market.
The Icon takes styling hints from the original MGB GT, which was built from 1965 to 1980. It is founded on the same base as the Chinese market Roewe 350 and MG 5. The size of this five-door Icon is similar to the Nissan Juke. The first SUV of MG is anticipated to be run by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol powerplant, which is produced and engineered by parent company Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC).
This engine delivers 148 lb ft and 135 bhp. It is also inclined to be fitted on the MG 5 and the Roewe 350, the 5's sibling vehicle. The interior of the concept model, which seats four, has two back seats which can be folded into the floor in order to expand the load bay.
There is no conventional B-pillars feature. The back doors are practically similar to those on the Mazda RX8. MG has been owned by SAIC since 2007, when the company merged with Nanjing Automobile Corporation. It currently manufactures and markets the MG 5, MG 6 and MG 3 models. [source: Autocar]
