In a recent interview, Jim McDowell a.k.a. MINI U.S. boss revealed the fact that the coupe version of the four-door Countryman crossover dubbed Countryman Coupe will hit the U.S. shores in the first quarter of 2013. As you may remember, this car was unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show in the concept form and was called the Paceman.

The new MINI Countryman Coupe will take on the Land Rover Evoque, which was recently named the 2012 Truck Of The Year, and promises to boost MINI sales to new records.

Although McDowell didn’t give us any details regarding the new model we do expect to see plenty of styling elements borrowed from the Paceman Concept.

For those who don’t know, the concept was powered by a MINI John Cooper Works 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine delivering 155 kW/211 hp and a maximum torque of 260 Nm (192 lb-ft).

Thanks to the Overboost function the torque can be increased to as much as 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) in short bursts. The new MINI Countryman Coupe will probably make its debut in September, at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

If MINI set a record in the United States in 2011 in terms of sales, 2013 seems to be another record year with the addition of the new model.

MINI also announced that it will three new models by the end of the decade which will use an all-new BMW Group front-wheel-drive platform that debuts with the second-generation Mini Cooper hardtop in 2014.
