MINI partners with Pandora to develop the first third party app for MINI Connected

MINI USA has partnered with Pandora to develop the first third party app for MINI Connected. As soon as it’s completed, Pandora internet radio will be offered at no charge and customers will be able to access and control Pandora through the existing MINI Connected system.

All 2011 MINIs that have been installed with MINI Connected will be able to stream Pandora, providing access to personalized internet radio for its entire vehicle lineup.

The MINI Connected app will have unique features that are popular to Pandora. This includes easy access to existing stations plus the ability to make new ones with the use of the car interface and high-resolution, color display of album art.

Stephan Durach, Director of the BMW Group Technology Office Palo Alto, said that its existing owners and potential new customers have been asking for the integration of Pandora.

He said that BMW is looking forward to making this function available in the MINI product range in a simple and safe manner. When development is done, MINI customers will be able to download Pandora, which will work right away with their existing MINI Connected systems.

He asserted that the integration of the Pandora internet radio, like the existing MINI Connected functions, will be seamless.

Jessica Steel, Executive Vice President of Business Development for Pandora, said that the company is “thrilled” that Pandora is being offered throughout its entire lineup and is enabling customers to “enjoy their personalized radio stations while on-the-go.”

The app and its functionality in MINI vehicles will be demonstrated during the Consumer Telematics Show and Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
