The Union Flag is the inspiration for the new edition of the ‘mini’ Mini Rocketman Concept to promote BMW’s participation in the London 2012 Olympics. BMW had displayed the Rocketman at the Geneva motor show last year. The new edition gets a series of bespoke features. Expect to see this concept to be shown off in the BMW Group Pavilion, near the Olympic and Paralympics Village.
The Rocketman has a non-metallic paint finish and it has carbonfibre components surrounding the headlights and doors. The black 18-inch wheels of this concept feature polished sections and red pinstriping. This concept is equipped with a glass roof with illuminated braces to signify the Union Flag. The interior gets indirect lighting from the integrated optical fibres.
This three-door, 3+1 seater is shorter than the Mini Hatch by around 70cm and makes use of a carbonfibre-reinforced-plastic spaceframe chassis. It is built to be three-seater with an extra seat.
This latest Rocketman version features seats that are trimmed in dark-blue nubuck leather while there are red and white rings on the surrounds for air-vents, door pulls and speakers. There are miniature figures on the cubby that’s incorporated into the armrest that are having a basketball game. Meanwhile, the doors have graphics that indicate the name of every city that has hosted the summer Olympics.
