More details of the upcoming Porsche 356 Speedster

Last week we talked about the revival of the Porsche 356 Speedster and we received some positive feedback! We were interested about the upcoming small cabrio from Porsche and today we wanted to bring you more details about the entry-level vehicle.

As we said the vehicle will represent a 356 of the modern era, and will be based on the Vw BlueSport Concept showed at the Detroit Auto Show, but this is not all: the concept will also represents a base for the upcoming Audi R4 and Vw Roadster.

According to a Vw manager, the new car should be ready by the end of 2012… Why so late?

Because the successors of 911, Boxster and Cayman will also be ready in 2011 and the manufacturer will have to wait a little until the launch of the small car. It seems that the new vehicle will also feature a dual-clutch gearbox, 16-inch brakes and electro-mechanical power steering.

Regarding the engine, it seems that the 2.0-liter TFSI engine will be the first choice of the German manufacturer but in different power levels: 240 hp for the Vw Roadster, 260 hp for the Audi and 280 hp (or maybe more we would say) for the Porsche.

So this is what Vw things, but let us see what Porsche considers: 180 hp for the Vw, a maximum 220 hp for the Audi and 300hp or more for the its own roadster (we think this would be better…). Regarding the price of the car, it seems that €35,000 ($46,670) would be fair enough to push the sales to an impressive level…  [via autobild]
