As part of the celebration of its 50th Anniversary, MINI will be coming out with a new interpretation of George Harrison's overgenerous original Mini.
The new model will be offered to Olivia Harrison during a MINI United event which she will accept on behalf of the Material World Charitable Foundation, a charity that was organized by George Harrison back in 1973. Then the car will be put up for auction later in the year in support of the Foundation.
Set to take place at the Silverstone in the UK this coming May 22-24, MINI United is the largest fan event in the world.
The event, which runs for three days, consists of non-stop entertainment, like concerts, shows and car races, for the brand's large fan base is also the ideal stage on which the company will showcase the George Harrison-inspired MINI. Brian Epstein, the manager of the popular band The Beatles, gave each of the four a Mini Cooper S as a gift back in 1966.
George, the lead guitarist of the group, had his car painted with vibrant images of yantras and Sanskrit mantras. The iconic Mini played a role in The Beatles' movie Magical Mystery Tour in 1967.
This time, in keeping with its anniversary, MINI is coming up with a modern interpretation of the car to dedicate to the man himself. The design of the MINI was influenced by Olivia Harrison which aimed at reviving the appearance of the famous car.
