Subaru added that the WRX will still be turbocharged and will have a forced-induction version of its new 2.0-liter “FB” boxer four. The STI version has an output of more than 300 hp. Using this new platform reduces the curb weights for both.
As they have different platforms, it’s understandable that “Impreza” will be dropped from the names of the next-gen WRX and STI when they arrive about two years from now. This means that enthusiasts will get to choose from among three models that have three-letter names.
Subaru of America came out with a new four-door version of its Subaru Impreza WRX STI performance flagship model. This means that the 2011 WRX STI is now offered in two body styles – the 5-door and the 4-door. Other than their new styling, the new cars also feature significantly revised suspension tuning as well as lighter 18-inch wheels for a much sharper and improved handling.
Since the Subaru Impreza WRX STI was introduced to the market, it has been constantly updated and improved. The 2011 WRX STI features sharpened bumper corners as well as wider, blacked-out fog lamp nacelles at the front, accentuating its “wide and low” profile. It also has a jutting lip spoiler with three-dimensional detailing that highlights the car’s sportiness. Moreover, the freshly designed front grille with black base and the blacked-out Subaru wing emphasize the shape of the headlight that give its front end a more strong and powerful look, accentuated by larger grille and bumper intake openings.
The 2011 WRX STI 4-door model boasts a newly designed wider rear fenders that wrap the side beyond the tail lamps, thereby accentuating the vehicle’s stability and reliability. These fresh details also contribute to the new car’s improved drag coefficient.
