Official: 2009 Mini Cooper Cabrio unveiled

The new MINI Cabrio, with its design enhanced in a progressive process and coming with broader range of useful functions, is distinctly MINI. This unique adaptability in the Cabrio category has become possible through the ground-breaking structural design and creation of the rollbar. The latest MINI Cabrio is equipped with a rollbar made of a single piece located at the back of the rear seats which extends across the whole interior breadth of the vehicle, and does not get in the way the driver's line of sight when looking at the back, and can automatically move up into position in about 150 milliseconds, in case there is a need for it.

With two engine versions, the latest MINI Cabrio will be available for sale in the second quarter of 2009. From the onset, the MINI Cooper Cabrio provides sporting qualities with its 1.6-liter 4-cylinder powerhouse highlighting totally adaptable valve management for peak yield of 88 kW at 6,000 rpm.

On the other hand, the MINI Cooper S Cabrio is even more vibrant and performance-focused, its 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine comes with a Twin-Scroll turbocharger and direct fuel injection generating 128 kW at a rev speed of 5,500 and therefore offering a significantly stimulating sensation of potency and active performance. Compared to its predecessors, the MINI Cabrio's fuel utilization and CO2 discharges are effectively lowered by up to 19 percent. At the onset, both the MINI Cooper S Cabrio and the MINI Cooper Cabrio are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission presented as typical or 6-speed automatic transmission as optional.

The latest MINI Cabrio's attractive handling originates from its suspension technology considerably improved and up-rated above the previous version.
