After yesterday’s leaked photos, Lexus officially unveiled the brand new 2014 IS. Moreover, the Japanese manufacturer announced that the 2014 Lexus IS will make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show on January 15. Just like the outgoing version, the new IS model range will include the IS 250, IS 350 and for the first time, the IS 300h hybrid model.
F SPORT models will be available across the full range. The first photos revealed by the manufacturer show the all-new new IS 250/350 F SPORT. The first visual impact with the 2014 Lexus IS shows the new Lexus spindle grille frontal design but also a new set of stylish headlamps. In profile, the strong horizontal beltline shows off the large rear tires and its low center of gravity.
The rear end is also impressive and features a rising crease line flowing from the lower body, through the rear wheel arch and into the rear lamp.
New F Sport models will easily be recognized by an exclusive grille and front bumper design. The interior design was also updated and creates a focused, ergonomically ideal environment from within, which the driver can fully exploit the new Lexus compact sedan’s driving dynamics.
The new IS’ increased width and longer wheelbase provide significantly improved rear seat comfort. The vehicle features a LFA-inspired steering wheel, while the center console incorporates Lexus-first, electrostatic switches to control the air conditioning temperature with the touch of a finger.
F Sport models will feature perforated leather finish to the steering wheel and shift knob, metal film 3-D-effect ornamentation, black seat stitching, and aluminium pedals and scuff plates.
The IS F SPORT already has the advantage of having exclusive design features for the interior and exterior. Lexus did not stop there as it also put in authentic dynamic enhancements. The suspension systems for example, for both the front and the rear, have been tuned specifically for the F SPORT. The same is true for the Electric Power Steering or EPS.
As such, it comes as no surprise that the handling performance has been improved. In addition, the Adaptive Variable Suspension system, or AVS, has also been tuned for the F SPORT models. The Variable Gear Ratio Steering system, or VGRS, on the other hand, will be made available for the IS 350. On the exterior, the design reveals a dynamic shape which helps highlight just how wide the flare of its wheel arches.
Thus, it gives the IS that powerful and broad stance. On the side, the use of the powerful horizontal beltline puts emphasis on the large tires in the rear and gives the vehicle a low center of gravity. There is also the strong and articulated headlamp cluster. Below this is the well-known signature of the brand, the Daytime Running Lights shaped like the letter L.
Further, F SPORT models are able to reveal their presence with the all-exclusive spindle grille, which this time now has a bolder insert design incorporated to it. Looking at the bumpers in the front, the bottom corners have that aerodynamic detailing which helps improve the brake cooling. The 18-inch wheels come with a Y-spoke design, clearly having the LFA as inspiration.
The interior on the other hand has a design that utilizes horizontal and clean theme. This line is divided through an upward sweep and placed in the center console therefore making the environment more ergonomic. The seat of the driver has a new design and delivers improved later support and even better comfort. Like the design of the wheel, the steering wheel has been inspired by the LFA.
In addition, the angle and the seat hip point have been lowered. With the steering reach adjustment being increased, the seating position becomes even more driver focused. Drivers will be able to get the needed information when driving through the meter cluster with its moving center ring, again with the LFA serving as inspiration. Trim detailing on the interior includes the F SPORT shift knob and steering wheel. Meanwhile the scuff plates and aluminum pedals have the Lexus logo.
