At the Volkswagen site in Osnabrück on Friday, there was a meeting between David McAllister, Lower Saxony's Minister President and Volkswagen Supervisory Board member, and Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft.
Winterkorn updated McAllister with regards to the preparations for production of the Golf Cabrio that will start in the spring of 2011.
During the tour of the site, Winterkorn said that in the past decades, many of the “most beautiful models in the automobile world” were built in Osnabrück.
He added that this tradition will continue with the new Golf Cabrio. He said that as the Group recognizes the value of the capacities and specialist skills in Osnabrück, about 1,800 jobs at Volkswagen Osnabrück will be created there by the end of 2011.
As a result, Osnabrück will continue to be a high-performance automobile location in its Group alliance. At the tour, guests were told by the management board of Volkswagen Osnabrück about the current activities at the site.
The delegation visited the Golf Cabrio body shop and assembly hall, as well as the training workshop, where there are 75 apprentices taking their vocational training. They also toured Osnabrück's collection of unique Group models.
