After yesterday’s leaked photos, Renault officially unveiled today the Alpine A 110-50 Concept, a vehicle that translates the most characteristic design features of the original A 110 in a modern and spectacular way. As expected, the new concept marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic A 110 Berlinette and we must admit it looks awesome.
The vehicle was built around the tubular chassis of the Megane Trophy and the design represents an evolution of the DeZir Concept, created by Laurens van den Acker. And because it is a racing version of the DeZir, the new A 110-50 Concept comes with a new front spoiler, an adjustable rear wing as well as a rear air diffuser.
The blue color is obviously a tribute to the Alpine Bleu, a colour seen on earlier models. Inside, there is not much… we find a roll cage in order to make the vehicle safer.
Oh yes, and because we don’t have much of a interior, the total weight of the car is only 880 kg. The sport seats feature the Renault Alpine A110-50 logo. The design of the car is completed by the 21-inch wheels, which hide the brake disks (356 mm on the front and 330 mm on the rear).
The car is powered by a Renault V4Y engine block, a 3.5 litre 24-valve 400hp V6 mounted in a mid-rear position. Moreover, the car features a carbon air intake employed for Mégane Trophy V6.
The big surprise is that the Renault Alpine A 110-50 concept car is fitted with a semi-automatic six-speed sequential gearbox, as well as a twin-plate clutch that can be controlled using either the clutch pedal or a paddle on the steering wheel. At the heart of the A 110-50 Concept, there is a Marvell 6R electronic control unit which includes functions for engine management, gearbox control and data acquisition.
Alpine A110-50 concept vehicle interprets the first A110’s most representative features in a contemporary and remarkable way with:
- sculptured shapes in its sleek, graceful body, heightened by lights that seem to float in the air
- half-domed added lamps that are nostalgic and yet still technical with full yellow LEDs
- characteristic 3-dimension rear window revealing the engine’s mid-rear, and
- side air intakes echoing the Berlinette’s rear wheel arch ducts – the right opening cools the gearbox and the left cools the engine.
Faster is the producer of the carbon-fibre body that features a new reinvigorated interpretation of the iconic Alpine Blue. Every panel opens with energy worthy of the best GTs, with a front-hinged bonnet, rear-hinged hood, and scissor opening doors.
The car has sensual curves echoing the Berlinette, communicating the design’s three keywords: simplicity, sensuality, and friendliness.
A competition-focused cockpit
In the driver’s seat, you’ll be drawn to the sills made of carbon-fibre. The entire interior conveys quality construction and athleticism, dominantly in black. The driver's seat has the Renault Alpine A110-50 badge embroidery, full harness Sabelt belts, and an attractive variety of blue shades. The dashboard is crisp and clean. Renault designed the steering wheel to incorporate a colour display and use the same Formula Renault 3.5 technology, providing drivers all their needed information.
Sabelt provided the racing equipment and Ruby created the helmet.
