The Peugeot RCZ R will be available to order starting November 18, 2013, with deliveries to customers in the United Kingdom set to begin on January 2, 2014. Touted as Peugeot’s most powerful road-going car, the RCZ R will have a starting price of £31,995. The Peugeot RCZ R boasts of number of mechanical upgrades that assure a thrilling ride.
Peugeot RCZ R, inspired by the Peugeot RCZ Racing Cup track car, rides 10mm lower to the ground and is powered by a 1.6-litre THP turbocharged petrol engine that provides up to 270bhp.
Since the RCZ R represents a considerable boost in power, Peugeot’s engineers have to rework almost every component of the RCZ for the RCZ R.
Peugeot endowed the RCZ R with a performance-oriented 1.6-liter engine that develops 270bhp – an output nearly similar to the Racing Cup car. Its output of almost 170bhp per liter also sets a record for specific power in the category.
The new engine, dubbed as EP6CDTR, features numerous parts that have evolved or were redesigned to enable drivers to optimize the full potential of the RCZ R. It develops max output of 270bhp at 6,000rpm and max torque of 330Nm is at 1,900rpm to 5,500rpm. Despite its power, the engine still complies with the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard.
The engine block was reinforced by a specific heat treatment prior to machining to enhance its durability. Its new forged pistons, as developed by Mahle Motorsport, feature a compression ratio of 9.2:1 and use a grade of aluminum found in Formula One.
This performance-oriented allows the Peugeot RCR Z to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
Peugeot unveiled the RCZ R at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, with a formal debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The Peugeot RCZ R is available in four colors – Moroccan Red, Nera Black, Mercury Grey and Opal White.
