Photo Update: BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition shows new angles

Article by Christian Andrei, on August 10, 2014

As you may know already, BMW will auction at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance a one-off i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition. When it announced it, BMW released just one photo but today more angles with the vehicle are available.

The new special edition celebrates the US arrival of the brand new plug-in hybrid supercar and will be easily distinguished thanks to the BMW Individual Frozen Grey Metallic exterior paint, while the interior features a Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery, tanned using dye derived from plant extracts.

The interior features BMW i blue stitching and ‘BMW i8’ embossed in the front headrests. What’s more interesting is that the i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition comes with laser headlights, pending government approval, an i8 Display key and the first BMW Charging Station, professional edition.

Moreover, the special edition of the i8 will feature the words ‘Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Edition’ laser etched into the door sills as well as a plaque on the rear parcel shelf that contains signatures of senior BMW executives that had a key role in the development of the vehicle such as Ian Robertson (BMW Group Board Member – BMW Sales and Marketing), Herbert Diess (BMW Group Board Member - Development), Adrian von Hooydonk (Head of Design – BMW Group), Ulrich Kranz (Head of BMW i) and Carsten Breitfeld (Project Manager – BMW i8).

BMW also said that the special edition of the i8 will also include a complete set of the Louis Vuitton luggage that was tailored exclusively for the i8.

Just like any other i8, the special edition will be powered by the 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 231 hp (170 kW) and 320 Nm of torque, which sends the power to the rear wheels, as well as by an electric motor delivering 131 hp (96 kW) and 250 Nm of torque that sends the power to the front wheels.

With a total output of 362 hp (266 kW) and 570 Nm of torque, the hybrid system pushes the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds, (0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds), while top speed is limited at 155 mph or 250 km/h. Using just the electricity stored in the lithium-ion battery, the BMW i8 offers a range of approximately 20 miles (32 km) and a speed of up to 75 mph or 120 km/h.
