Porsche Driver’s Selection 911 silhouette lamp now available

Article by Andrew Christian, on October 6, 2014

Porsche Driver’s Selection is celebrating the Porsche 911 by making available an exclusive 911 silhouette lamp at Porsche Centres and from porsche.com/shop this month. This one-of-a-kind lamp --designed by the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See in Austria – shows the silhouettes of different generations of the Porsche 911 from 1963.

The 60cm x 32cm acrylic-glass lamp is inspired by the product history wall at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen, Germany, which also features the illustrated silhouettes of various Porsche models -- the Porsche 901 (1963), the G model (1973), the Porsche 993 (1993), the Porsche 996 (1997), the Porsche 997 (2004) and the Porsche 991 (2011).

The lamp is comprised of six acrylic-glass panels positioned one behind the other – each etched with a silhouette of one of the different Porsche 911 models. The lamp is shaped by an aluminum frame running around the edge of each panel.

The silhouettes can be illuminated individually, alternately or simultaneously using each model's touch-sensitive button. One can even view the silhouettes of each model in sequential order by using the continuous operation mode – thereby showing how the Porsche 911 has evolved through the years.

Users can also control the brightness of the LED lamp as well as the speed of the continuous-operation mode through the plus/minus sensor.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas with gift ideas from Porsche

Porsche Driver’s Selection is getting into the Christmas spirit with a range of gift ideas for both big and small Porsche lovers alike. The range covers all aspects of Porsche fascination from casual retro leather jackets and classic chronographs to a turquoise Baby Porsche 4S.

“Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting.” These were the words used by the American actor Steve McQueen to describe his fascination with motorsports and speed. The new Steve McQueen leather jackets for men and women made from lambskin nappa leather convey this attitude perfectly. With its casual retro style, this leather jacket is the perfect Christmas gift for anyone who loves that "King of Cool" style.

On your marks, get set, go! With the turquoise Baby Porsche 4S even the very youngest of Porsche drivers can take up their positions in the starting line-up. A security steering wheel with mechanical horn along with detailed headlights and tail lamps promise real Porsche driving fun. A well-padded, removable seat ensures all-round comfort for 18-month to three-year-old Porsche fans, even on the wildest of drives. The extra-wide, whisper tyres also help to keep the noise down – an added bonus for the parents. And if it's the perfect co-pilot you're after, look no further than the Motorsport bear, sporting a genuine Porsche Motorsport race suit.

Both little and large hobby racing drivers can actually take up their positions on the 911 GT3 Cup Racetrack Set. The 8.3-metre-long circuit based on the Carrera Digital 143 track demands the highest levels of concentration with its two loop-the-loops and two lane-changing points. Supplied with two exclusive Porsche 911 GT3 Cup vehicles in a 1:43 scale to create a real motorsport atmosphere within your own four walls.

The new Porsche timekeepers are “Swiss Made” and guaranteed to get any man's pulse racing on Christmas day. The classic watch series includes the timeless 911 Sport Classic Chronograph, the 911 Turbo Classic Chronograph, and the 911 Classic Chronograph available in two different versions. The chronographs feature split-time measurement, date display and large stainless steel or aluminium housing with non-reflective sapphire crystal. What's more, luminescent hour and minute hands ensure optimum readability, day and night.

A particularly elegant gift for Porsche lovers is the exclusive 911 Silhouette Luminaire. This light object, designed by the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See (Austria), shows the evolutionary process of the legendary sportscar using the silhouettes of different generations of the Porsche 911 from 1963 to the present day. The sportscar silhouettes can be illuminated individually, alternately or simultaneously. A black passepartout frame printed directly onto the panels brings each model masterfully to life. At a width of 60 centimetres and a height of 32 centimetres, the "Made in Germany" lamp attracts a lot of attention.

Anyone who likes to travel during the colder months of the year would be thrilled to receive the new PTS Ultralight Hybrid luggage series for Christmas. Inspired by the Porsche E-Hybrid vehicle lettering, the extravagant lime green details ensure this luggage is a real eye-catcher at any airport. The solid and ultra-light models with four black multi-wheel rollers and sunken TSA-approved lock are the ideal companion to any travel destination.

The official Porsche Calendar 2015 in a 59 by 55.5 centimetre format offers exceptional Porsche moments for the entire year. The calendar embodies passion for the sportscars from Zuffenhausen with this year’s theme, “Monochrome Purity”. Each image depicts a new world – inspired by the unique design of Porsche sportscars. The minimalist background ensures that the vehicles take centre stage. The calendar is traditionally supplied with an exclusive 40 millimetre collector's medal.
