Article by Christian A., on October 18, 2012

Porsche unveiled the Panamera Platinum Edition, a special edition of its first four-door model that comes with design features in platinum silver metallic combined with expanded standard features and exclusive details. Available as a Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel, the new Platinum Edition, the models come with the lower half of the side view mirrors, the air-inlet grille lamellas, the air vent grille on the side designed specifically for the turbo model, the trim on the trunk lid and the rear diffuser are all in platinum silver metallic.

Moreover, the Platinum Edition is available in five exterior finish colours. Solid exterior colours are offered in black or white as well as the options of metallic basalt black, metallic carbon grey and metallic mahogany lacquer finishes.

The design is completed by the black glossy finish used for the side window strips that creates a convincing overall exterior appearance. In terms of technology, the new Panamera Platinum features Bi-Xenon headlights, front parking assist, automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors, 19-inch Panamera Turbo alloy wheels with the red, black and gold Porsche crest.

The interior comes with a new black/luxor beige bi-colour combination. Moreover, compared with the previous bi-colour detailing, this new bi-colour combination comes with new patterns. Along with the upper part of the dashboard and the door trim, the footwell and the back of the front seats as well as the loadspace cover are in black, while the rest of the interior is in luxor beige.

Other highlights include a standard sport design steering wheel and the distinctive Porsche crest on the front and rear headrests. The design is completed by the Platinum Edition badges found on the front door trim strips.

Other features offered as standard are the front seat heating, Porsche Communication Management (PCM), a high-resolution 7-inch TFT touchscreen and eleven loudspeakers with a combined output of 235 watts. Pricing starts at EUR 79,707 including VAT for the Panamera Platinum Edition, while the Panamera 4 Platinum Edition retails for EUR 87,323.

What makes the Porsche Panamera unique is that basing solely on the design language, it is able to define what could be a new market segment. It has a purebred design one generally sees on a sports car but taken from the body of a coupe. While it does also show the design of the classic saloon, the new Panamera brings its own interpretation to this.

Further, it offers the benefits of a variable space concept and being the newest model to come from Porsche, has a look that is truly unique. On the outside, it shows a number of themes present in classic models of Porsche; thus, it offers both a strong and dynamic appearance. This is considered as remarkable as the interior reveals elegance while being able to offer ample amount of space.

The overall length of the Panamera can be described as compact with the overhangs made short. While the height has been made lower, the sides are both muscular and wide. Combining all of these reveals that the new Panamera does have the design language expected of a Porsche model. Indeed, the front section itself is immediately recognizable as a Porsche considering that it looks similar to many sports cars of the brand.

The large air intakes are still present with the upper region having a straight form. Then there are the front wings and its powerful curves which manage to contain the headlights and their unique shape. The front section continues to use a number of design features and elements that the brand is famous for. In the rear section, the light cluster has been arranged in a horizontal manner on the outer air intakes.

With the curved compartment lid of the engine, you get a look that is muscular and at the same time powerful. Porsche added that for the Panamera S and the Panamera 4S, the panels and the front sections have the same color as that of the body and these are incorporated with openings to allow cooling air to get inside. The defining feature of the S is the double bars in black that are positioned on the side air intakes in the front.

For the 4S, the double bars are in titanium. Meanwhile, the horizontal position lights have the same shape as the light conductors. They have been placed in the middle of the daytime driving lights and the direction indicators. With this, the Panamera is able to display a distinct look at night.
