Preview: 2012 Lexus IS

Article by Christian Andrei, on August 17, 2011

Lexus is currently working on the makeover for its model range but as the IS range (including a sedan and convertible) got a facelift last year, there are no major revisions announced for the 2012 upgrade. Consumers have two engine units to choose from: a standard 2.5-liter V-6 in the IS 250 that delivers 204hp and the 3.5-liter V-6 in the IS 350 that has an output of 306hp.

The European model has Euro 5 compliancy for the top-of-the-line IS-F version, which is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with an output of 423 hp.

This enables the model to sprint from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.7 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 270 km/h (168mph), similar to the previous version.

Furthermore, customers may choose either the rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations for the two base models. Lexus also offers an F-Sport package that’s exclusive for the more pure RWD version. This is equipped with stiffer suspension, revised steering and 18-inch alloy wheels with a dark finish.

Customers may also opt for the 19-inch wheels. The package also includes a front lip spoiler, rear deck spoiler and dark-chrome front grille insert. Similar to the CT 200h, it has a revised color pallet. Nebula Gray Pearl replaces Smoky Granite Mica while Fire Agate Pearl replaces Glacier Frost Mica.

The features that are offered as standard include a 13-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, iPod and USB connectivity, and bi-xenon headlights. Also available to customers are an improved 14-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, a touchscreen navigation system, and the Lexus Enform telematics and connectivity feature.
