Puma becomes sponsor of Rallycross Team

PUMA has announced that it is the official sponsor of the six-round 2012 Global Rallycross Championship and the Subaru PUMA Rallycross Team. This marks the sports lifestyle brand’s entry into the rally circuit. The race starts on May 26 in Charlotte and in the summer, it will hold races in speedways throughout the US.

This race is actually the United States’ version of the famous European sport of rallycross that has small production-based cars competing with each other for door-to-door racing that features dirt, asphalt, and a 70′ gap jump. What the Global Rallycross Championship offers are the ultimate aspects of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition to offer intense action in various fan-friendly environments.

Being the sponsor, PUMA would serve as the official supplier of team and racewear. PUMA is also the exclusive licensing partner to the team when it comes to footwear and apparel. Subaru technical partner Vermont SportsCar is managing the Subaru PUMA Rallycross Team, which is the factory-supported rally team for Subaru of America. Rallycross benefits from the extensive experiences of PUMA and Subaru in motorsport as well as from its crowds of fans.

BMX icon and professional Rally athlete Dave Mirra is the leader of this all-star, three-man driving team. The team will compete in 2012 Subaru WRX STI rally cars that offer a fresh new appearance for Rallycross with its distinctive Zombie Cat graphic.

Mirra and the team will use official fireproof PUMA racing suits with Zombie Cat graphics and a new performance racing shoe dubbed the PRX Subaru. Starting in June, PUMA will release lifestyle footwear, tees and accessories inspired by the team and rally cars.
