Renault Sport introduces Twingo RS Red Bull Racing RB7 Edition

Article by Anita Panait, on May 25, 2012

Renault Sport is now offering a limited edition version of the Twingo R.S., to celebrate Red Bull-Renault’s capture of the 2011 Formula 1 Constructors' world title. The limited edition version of the Twingo R.S., the Twingo R.S. Red Bull Racing RB7 features Cup chassis, black 17-inch Gana wheels, Renault Sport checkered-pattern roof decal, as well as an optional on-board telemetry system called R.S. Monitor.

The Twingo R.S. Red Bull Racing RB7is only available in more than 10 countries, which include Austria, Belgium/Luxemburg, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Poland, Slovakia, and Switzerland. Interested buyers could book their orders early June 2012, while order books will open in France only in early September. Olivier Tschanhenz, Twingo Renault Sport Product Manager, described the limited edition car as “a pocket rocket packed with performance-enhancing features,” which were developed by Renault Sport Technologies.

Tschanhenz noted that the limited edition car’s “great looks” is the result of Renault Sport F1's association with Red Bull Racing. True enough, the Twingo R.S. Red Bull Racing RB7 mirrors Renault Sport’s racing expertise.  It is powered by a 1.6 16V engine that provides 133 horsepower (98kW) at 6,750rpm and maximum torque of 160Nm at 4,400rpm.

Despite its dynamic power, the engine only emits 150 grams of Carbon Dioxide per kilometer while consuming 6.5 litres of fuel per 100 kilometers in combined-cycle. The Cup chassis that carries the Twingo R.S. Red Bull Racing RB7 lowered its ride-height by 4mm, compared to the ‘Sport' chassis.

This improves performance by minimizing weight transfer and providing drivers greater enjoyment behind the wheel. The car’s dampers and springs are also stiffer by 10 percent, which improved the body roll control. Its optional on-board telemetry system displays data that could aid drivers when they indulge in sporty driving.

The Twingo R.S. Red Bull Racing RB7 sports the design cues of Renault Sport's other sporty models -- forceful front-end styling as well as a large, vertically-mounted logo set to a black background. The limited edition car’s bumper dons a Formula 1-style blade while its rear end is highlighted by large wheel arches, lip spoiler and diffuser.

Twingo R.S. Red Bull Racing RB7 comes in a Pearlescent Black body finish, with several details -- F1-style blade, door mirror housings, lip spoiler – finished in Sirius Yellow. The Twingo R.S. Red Bull Racing RB7 also features Renault Sport checkered-pattern roof decal and door decals, sporting the same colors of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team.

New Renault Twingo RS that goes on sale starting from the middle of March 2012 is a sporty interpretation of the new Renault style. This includes an energetic four-light grille design and a front bumper sporting a Formula 1 styled blade, a detail that is now seen throughout Renault’s entire Sport range to reflect its Formula 1 success.

The signature Sirius Yellow finish is an available option as of the end of May. The car’s rear end boasts a lip spoiler mounted to the tail gate. This is a special, distinct bumper that combines a diffuser with aerodynamic extensions on the back wheel arches. Also available is a design pack that includes grey or dark gun metal grey door mirror covers, Formula 1 blades, and an RS lip spoiler, as well as chrome detailed fog light coverings. You could also select new 16-inch 'emotion' alloy wheels with RS centre cap badges to proudly declare the car's noble heritage.

The classic Renault Sport’s yellow stitchery features in the Twingo RS interior (over the steering wheel, dashboard cover, and seats) with glossy black inserts found as touches on the dashboard, air vents, radio console, and rev-counter housing. The steering wheel top, rev-counter cover, seat backs and cushions, and climate controls are highlighted in white.
