Rendered Speculation: Mercedes-Benz City-G is a city version of the G-Class

Article by Christian A., on April 3, 2014

Back in 2012 at the LA Auto Show Design Challenge, Mercedes-Benz revealed the spectacular Ener-G-Force Concept, a vehicle that was believed to preview a possible next-generation G-Class model. Still, nothing happened since then as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class received only minor modifications but fans of the German brand created some renderings with their vision of the future G-Class.

Clearly inspired by the Ener-G-Force, the new renderings were created after some reports of a possible City-G model a.k.a. a city version of the G-Class that will be slotted between the GLK and recently introduced GLA. As you can see from the photos, the City-G lost its boxy shape seen on the G-Class and we must admit that looks absolutely impressive.

Taking in consideration that compact crossovers are becoming very popular we believe that this would be the perfect addition in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. If built, the City-G could use the 2.0-liter petrol engine found on the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA and capable to deliver 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

A 2.2-liter diesel engine that delivers 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque will also be perfect for this crossover. In order to be fuel-efficient, all the engines would use the 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission as well as ECO start/stop function as standard. Still, don’t forget that these are just some renderings made by Christian Schulte and that the City-G is just a rumor, for now!
