Report: Jaguar’s 3-Series fighter could be called XS

Article by Christian A., on March 17, 2011

It’s not a secret anymore that Jaguar is planning to take on the compact segment, dominated by the Bmw 3-Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4. Few weeks ago at the Geneva Motor Show, Bertone came with the Jaguar B 99 Concept, its vision of how the 3-Series fighter should look like.

Many of you folks (including 4WheelsNews team) liked the new concept, but not Jaguar, who said that the B 99 is simply not for them, and they want something else. Bertone believed that the B 99 Concept is a compact, four-door sedan (4.5 m long, 1.35 m tall, and 1.95 m wide) that fits perfectly into the D segment.

But if Jaguar officials don’t think this, firm’s global brand director Adrian Hallmark had to be very clear: "It is not our concept. We appreciate the fact that Jaguar is interesting enough for people to do a concept around. It's not that we are offended by it, or against it -- it is just not for us."

Bad news, as the B 99 uses a full-hybrid power system created by Bertone Energy, the company's new division intended for renewable energy research.

It could be the perfect hybrid Jag. Today, 4WheelsNews sources said that the upcoming car could be called ‘XS’. As expected, the name doesn’t come from extra small as the new car will offer plenty of interior space. It is simply an evolution of the X-Type name.
