Rolls-Royce releases first official photo of the new Wraith

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars released today the first photo with its new model Wraith. For those who don’t know, the new coupe will be launched in March at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and according to the official press release, it will show a graceful silhouette that gives expression to a bold and thoroughly contemporary luxury motor car.

The car will feature flowing lines and promises to be the most powerful Rolls-Royce in history. Still, it will offer design cues that can be traced through the model generations. “Rolls-Royce Wraith will draw superlatives when it is unveiled in Geneva,” explained Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, to representatives of the 100-strong global dealer network.

“Expect the boldest design, the most dramatic performance and the most powerful Rolls-Royce that has ever played host to the famous Spirit of Ecstasy figurine.

We will present a model whose starting point is luxury, refinement and exclusivity, traits that have made Rolls-Royce the world’s pinnacle luxury good for the last 108 years. This is a car not only defined by a timeless elegance, but one that encapsulates a sense of power, style and drama,” added Müller-Ötvös.

The design of the new Rolls-Royce Wraith essentially brings out its elegance, confidence, simplicity and dynamism. Overall, the design of the new Wraith allows it to become a car that drivers could rely on.

As designed, the Wraith features a fastback marked by sweeping lines -- a design cue that could be traced from the automotive styling of the 1930s – which further deepens the dramatic exterior styling of the car.

This exterior styling is complemented by a true performance capability, as the new Wraith is powered by twin turbo V12 engine that provides 624 bhp (465 kW) of output, which is enough to allow the car to sprint from zero to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds (zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds). This performance level is also conveyed by the car’s wider rear track and shorter wheelbase.

Despite its dynamic appearance, the new Wraith doesn’t feel as extreme as other GT cars or racers, since it is designed to offer higher levels of luxury and refinement.

Making its debut on the Wraith is Rolls-Royce’s most intelligent drivetrain, which employs a number of innovative technologies such as the Satellite Aided Transmission (SAT). SAT could process GPS data to determine the driver's next action and then automatically picks the right gear – a situation that helps avoid unnecessary gear changes.

SAT basically could boost the Wraith’s waftability while allowing the car to deliver what it has been designed to offer. For instance, the SAT could pre-select the optimum gear after the car manages a curve, thereby resulting to smoother acceleration.
