Rumor: Bmw preparing new lineup of Y cars

Article by Christian Andrei, on August 27, 2010

An informer has released information concerning the German carmaker's upcoming intentions for its premium entry level range combining the Z2 and 1-Series, along with a new lineup of Y cars. Furthermore, the informant said that the single line will divide into three various levels as follows: Traditional, Sporting and Lifestyle.

The underpinnings will be a modular platform that can be distinguished between models and will become the basis for the succeeding MINI models. Included in the Traditional lineup will be the 1-Series together with the Active Hybrid and Sport Compact variants.

The Sporting line will consist of the 1-Series and Z2 coupe and cabriolet and also the Supersports variant of the 1 and 135i Lightweight Performance Concept vehicles.

Comprising the Lifestyle line are the 1-Series GT, the X1, X2 and the Y1. The full line will enhance the capabilities of the Efficient Dyanmics, as well as offer the hybrid variant of each model.

With the utilization of lightweight and advanced boding procedures the cars will not come with the regular boost in overall weight.

There will be 12 models that the carmaker will be offering, minus the hatches. For those who are interested to know what the Y1 is, it is a 2-door, 2-seater hybrid of an X with the air of a Z and is a more dynamic, lighter and more exclusive SAV in contrast to the X6 and comes with more character and aesthetics.
