BMW i has formed a partnership with Schneider Electric that would allow it to bring customer-friendly electro-mobility services in the United Kingdom. Under the partnership agreement, Schneider Electric will become the producer of the BMW i Wallbox as well as its recommended installer.
The partnership will pave way for Schneider Electric to collaborate with the BMW i Sales Agents and customers -- as it provides home surveys, supply and installation of the charging point as well as offers maintenance and comprehensive support. Schneider Electric will provide the installation package while BMW will manage it. The package could be customized to meet specific requirements of customers.
The BMW i Wallbox will allow BMW i owners to quickly charge their units at home or at work. With the BMW i Wallbox, i3 owners in the UK could charge their units at up to 7.4kW from zero to 80 percent within three hours, and to a full charge within four hours.
The UK government is offering a 75 per cent grant for the provision of domestic charging points, as part of a GBP37-million EV investment package. This will apply to BMW i Wallbox, which means that the installed cost is trimmed to GBP315 including VAT.
David Greaves, National Business Development Manager for EV at Schneider Electric, expressed excitement in being the provider of home EV charging systems to BMW customers. The BMW i3 is considered as the first electric vehicle on the market designed to work with a specially developed home charging unit.
David Greaves, National Business Development Manager for EV at Schneider Electric, comments: “We are very excited about this partnership as the provider of home EV charging systems to BMW customers. We strive to deliver seamless, efficient and customer-friendly EV charging installation, extending excellent service into the provision of domestic electric car charging systems.“ [source: BMW]
