Article by Christian A., on April 22, 2012

Seat revealed today the Ibiza Cupra Concept, a car that previews the next sporty Ibiza, which promises to combine agile driving fun with a high degree of functionality. According to Seat, the production version of the Ibiza Cupra Concept will arrive by the end of the year and is expected to debut in September, at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

The production version is expected to look just like the concept as this is just a test to see customer’s reaction. The Ibiza Cupra Concept is powered by the 1.4-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 180 hp and 250 Nm of torque and mated to the seven-speed DSG transmission with shift paddles.

Power is transmitted to the front wheels. Moreover, the Ibiza Cupra Concept is fitted with the XDS electronic differential lock, high-performance brakes but also the optional SEAT Portable System that combines navigation and entertainment functions.

Regarding the design, the Ibiza Cupra Concept features a new set of stylish headlamps fitted with LED daytime running lights, large fog lamps, a sporty bumper, exterior mirrors painted in gloss black, a rear bumper with integrated air diffuser and central exhaust system.

Moreover, the vehicle features the distinctive Crono Yellow paint finish as well as a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels. The sporty theme is continued also at the interior, where the vehicle features a new sports steering wheel with the Cupra logo and the shift paddles for the DSG transmission, new instruments, leather sports seats with lateral flashes of yellow to match the Cupra exterior as well as a new set of aluminum pedals.

The entertainment system is completely new and features a 5-inch screen is removable for mobile use and yet perfectly integrated into the vehicle’s electronics. Dubbed SEAT Portable System, this will be available as an option for the entire Ibiza family.

Exterior Design

From your first look, the new Ibiza Cupra Concept’s exclusive design conveys its competence, a sporty compact with a strong, solid stance. The wide grille and powerful air intakes accentuate the range, firmness, and strength of the SEAT Ibiza Cupra Concept. The front headlights’ classy styling displays the precise detail that can be found from SEAT.

The trendy line of the lamps is true to SEAT’s design ethos, while still integrating flawlessly with the Ibiza's sculpted form. The LED day and rear running lights follow trace headlamps’ lines, delivering a singular light signature. Bi-xenon headlamps provide precise, perfect brightness, and the cornering lights and large fog lamps are seamlessly combined.

The sharp lines and edges enliven the three-door sports coupe’s side view, and the strong rear shoulders and 17-inch wheels highlight its energy. The black exterior mirrors clearly contrast with the distinct Crono yellow paint finish of the Cupra Concept in Beijing.

The powerful rear again emphasises the Ibiza Cupra’s special place among the new compact sports car benchmarks, with its yellow broad bumper bordering the matte black diffuser and trapezoid exhaust outlet.

Interior Design

The exterior design’s expressive strength is also revealed in its interior and in the very minimal and organised cockpit. The special sense of excellence and precise artistry underscores SEAT's extremely exacting standards.

Cupra-logoed sports steering wheel with DSG transmission shift paddles, specialised instruments, and leather sports seats, with lateral yellow flashes matching the signature Cupra exterior, are all clear signals of the special role that this top-end unit of the Ibiza line holds.
