Audi has rolled off the production its six millionth unit endowed with quattro drive at its Ingolstadt site. The six millionth unit, an Audi SQ5 in monsoon gray metallic, will be delivered to a family in the United States.
The unit marks global success of Audi Quattro, which has reached it six millionth quattro driven car since building the first one in 1980. Now, Audi has around 170 quattro versions, making it as the brand offering the widest selection of all-wheel drive vehicles among luxury car makers.
Audi built 710,095 cars with quattro drive. The carmaker also builds around 2,000 quattro drive models daily off its production lines at its Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm sites. Customers have been flocking to Quattro models. In fact, 44 percent of Audi customers opted for a quattro model in 2013.
Likewise, Audi is the top-seller of all-wheel drive vehicles among luxury carmakers. Among Audi models with Quattro drive, the best-seller was the Audi Q5, followed by the Audi A4. Audi models with quattro are experiencing in demand in United States, Canada, Russia and the Middle East.
They are also in high demand also in Germany, for which 61,150 Audi models with quattro drive were built in the first half of the year. Audi has made the quattro technology available across all of its model series.
Some models like the Audi Q7, Audi R8, Audi A4 allroad, Audi A6 allroad and all S and RS models could only be availed with quattro drive.
