The Riccione seaside resort on Italy’s Adriatic coast will be hosting a gathering of members of Europe’s smart community on August 4-7, 2011. This marks the first time in 10 years that the gathering will be hosted outside of Austria. After this year’s event, a different country will be hosting smart times every year. This is indicative of the smart brand’s continuously increasing significance.
Smart times has developed in the last ten years from being a relatively minor event into a major one in Europe. More than 4000 smart aficionados from 22 nations are scheduled to attend in Riccione. Some of them will be presenting self-designed vehicles, but all will be promoting the importance of smart automotive systems by networking with auto designers, tuners and other automotive experts.
Smart times is described by smart head Dr Annette Winkler as a “fantastic event” in which thousands of smart fans converge every year from various European nations to spread passion and enthusiasm for the brand, go on road trips, attend concerts and show off their own imaginatively and innovatively designed cars at the smart parade. After this year, a different country will host smart times every year to “increase the appeal” of the smart family gathering.
The event location in Riccione is a private resort where a stage will be set up and a programme set to include sport, fun and entertainment. The smart fortwo will be centrally promoted and the “smart meets Museo Ferrari” Maranello excursion will be a main highlight.
