A special edition of the Smart ForTwo is being launched in Europe. A slightly modified version will arrive in the U.S. in the later part of 2012. The two-door Smart is named the Edition Iceshine. What makes this different from the regular models are its unique paint and interior parts. It gets crystal white body panels, white wheels, and the Tridion safety cage is painted white when it’s normally painted in silver or black.
The interior of the Iceshine models features black leather seats, which use white cross-stitching and a white fabric backrest. The European model would also be available in a one-of-a-kind azure blue color but just the white Smart Iceshine will be imported to the U.S. What’s offered as standard on the cars are LED running lights, power steering, and heated seats.
Only one powertrain is available in the market: a 1.0-liter inline-three-cylinder engine, which is coupled with a five-speed automated-manual transmission. Smart intends to build only 1800 units of the ForTwo Iceshine.
Of this figure, just 300 will be sold in the U.S. beginning this fall. This may seem to be a big figure for a special edition car, considering that Smart sold just 2,652 cars in the U.S. in 2011. Smart will build the ForTwo Iceshine in both coupe and convertible variants. Prices start at €14,490.
The new generation smart ForTwo is now available in a wider range of colors. You can now pick from a selection of seven colors for its exterior instead of the six that were previously available. Choices also include a trendy matt finish. Aside from the new matt light green color, the previous blue metallic will be replaced by light blue metallic. What’s more, you can opt to have your car’s front spoiler, rear apron, and side skirts painted in the body color. Also, in the future, the fuel filler cap is going to sport the same paint color as the car’s body.
Furthermore, smart is extending the color choices available for the car with the cabrio soft top blue and red and the tridion safety cell will be available in brilliant white. And in conjunction with the bright white tridion safety cell, smart ForTwo’s door mirror surrounds and radiator grille are also painted white. All these combination possibilities and these modern color constellations provide the car with a completely new face.
Moreover, the ForTwo has LED daytime driving lights that are optional and create an eye-catching detail. The car’s three new 15” alloy wheels likewise bring fresh ideas when it comes to design and styling.
The new generation ForTwo’s interior has been redesigned and now carries a fresh, spacious, and feel-good atmosphere, thanks to a full fabric-covered instrument panel that features new styling as well as new fabric designs.
Additionally, the car boasts further equipment features that highlight its attention to details. These features include new dials plus contrasting dark central disc on the instrument cluster, dashboard instruments, and optional fabric-covered foldable center armrest. Also available as an option is a three-spoke leather steering wheel equipped with cruise control function as well as a trip computer. Customers can also opt for ambient lighting with LEDs that are dimmable in order to create a warm and pleasant lighting atmosphere.
