Smart ForTwo Iceshine unveiled with unique paint and interior parts

Article by Christian Andrei, on June 22, 2012

A special edition of the Smart ForTwo is being launched in Europe. A slightly modified version will arrive in the U.S. in the later part of 2012. The two-door Smart is named the Edition Iceshine. What makes this different from the regular models are its unique paint and interior parts. It gets crystal white body panels, white wheels, and the Tridion safety cage is painted white when it’s normally painted in silver or black.

The interior of the Iceshine models features black leather seats, which use white cross-stitching and a white fabric backrest. The European model would also be available in a one-of-a-kind azure blue color but just the white Smart Iceshine will be imported to the U.S. What’s offered as standard on the cars are LED running lights, power steering, and heated seats.

Only one powertrain is available in the market: a 1.0-liter inline-three-cylinder engine, which is coupled with a five-speed automated-manual transmission. Smart intends to build only 1800 units of the ForTwo Iceshine.

Of this figure, just 300 will be sold in the U.S. beginning this fall. This may seem to be a big figure for a special edition car, considering that Smart sold just 2,652 cars in the U.S. in 2011. Smart will build the ForTwo Iceshine in both coupe and convertible variants. Prices start at €14,490.
