Steve Saleen still working on its supercar

Article by Christian A., on April 10, 2012

The legal dispute involving the Saleen name has finally been resolved, with Steve Saleen regaining use of his name on all his products. The auto-tuning entrepreneur was pleased to talk about his plans for the company. He is confident that the S5S Raptor concept car, which was presented in 2008 at the New York Auto Show, will be built.

He confirmed that the model is definitely still part of the company’s plan but it won’t be implemented immediately. However, he said that it’s possible that the S5S will have a different name. He declined to give details about the new car but the original S5S Raptor was already impressive on its own, as it featured a 5.0-liter supercharged Ford V8 that could deliver 650 hp.

Saleen said that it will be some time yet before it comes out with a new supercar but he wants everyone to expect an announcement of a major new vehicle within the next 90 days. Saleen said that this new car will take on a different direction. About four or five years after Saleen departed the company (which carried his name), he founded SMS (which stands for Steven Mark Saleen) Supercars in Corona, Calif.

Using the SMS name, he had produced a total of 400 Dodge Challengers and Ford Mustangs with various levels of tuning. Saleen also said that it may soon start producing a Camaro version – a project that has long been a part of their plans. [source: AutoWeek]
