Singer Vehicle Design (SVD) unveils restored Porsche 911 at the Quail

Article by Anita Panait, on August 19, 2013

Singer Vehicle Design (SVD) unveiled its latest restored masterpiece at the 2013 Quail Motorsports Gathering on August 15, 2013 – a vintage bespoke Porsche. The unveiling marked a number of firsts for SVD. First, the viewing of the latest bespoke 911 as re-imagined by Singer will mark the first appearance of its work since its debut on BBC’s Top Gear in July 2013.

Second the unveiling will mark the arrival of a ‘Singer Racing Blue and Orange’ color combo that evokes the golden era of road racing in the 1970’s. Rob Dickinson, creator and founder of Singer Vehicle Design, remarked that the “newest restored and reborn machine thrives on the very essence of Porsche’s origins.”

Dickinson remarked that their process involves customization and restoration of a customer’s vintage Porsche using the 964 chassis. He added that the process entailed “the most extensive transformation in modernizing and optimizing a true icon.”

The restored Porsche --  headed to a customer in Dubai -- is SVD’s first exhibit at the Quail annual event. It will be the first to feature a distinct ‘second skin’ interior treatment that reminds of the racing unit of a lightweight stripped-down race car interior. The vehicle also features compact sound absorption materials specifically developed for the private jet industry.

The customer car likewise features new carbon fiber race seats with integral shoulder support and adjustable headrests, paving way for a weight savings of 175 lbs.  SVD is increasingly becoming famous for restoring vehicles into handcrafted bespoke and exquisite units.

This is the main reason why clients from all over the world -- France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mexico, Sweden, Taiwan and the United Kingdom -- are aching to avail of Singer Vehicle Design’s services.

Singer Vehicle Design (SVD) Porsche 911

When Singer Vehicle Design (SVD) displays the latest handcrafted masterpiece it has restored for a customer at the 2013 Quail Motorsports Gathering on August 15th, it will note a series of “firsts” while continuing to salute the genius of Porsche and the 50th anniversary of the original 911.

For SVD, the viewing of the most current bespoke 911 re-imagined by Singer will mark the first appearance of the brand’s work since its triumphant debut on BBC’s Top Gear in July, as well as the arrival of a ‘Singer Racing Blue and Orange’ color combination that recalls the golden era of road racing in the 1970’s.

“This newest restored and reborn machine thrives on the very essence of Porsche’s origins,” said Rob Dickinson, creator and founder of Singer Vehicle Design. “Our process is solely the customization and restoration of a customer’s vintage Porsche utilizing the 964 chassis and thus, executing the most extensive transformation in modernizing and optimizing a true icon.”

As Singer makes its first display at the Quail annual event, it will showcase the restoration work performed on a vehicle headed to a customer in Dubai. A burgeoning global client base including those in France, Sweden, Indonesia, Taiwan, Mexico, Hong Kong and the UK, have already commissioned Singer Vehicle Design to restore their vehicles by hand to craft uniquely personalized and exquisite vehicles that remain an enthusiasts dream.

The car to be shown at Quail will be the first to feature a unique ‘second skin’ interior treatment that evokes the racing chic of a lightweight stripped down race car interior, with the refinement gained from concealed cutting edge and compact sound absorption materials developed for the private jet industry. Another first for the brand, and on this particular customer’s car, will be new carbon fiber race seats with integral shoulder support and adjustable headrests – creating a weight savings of 175 lbs.

According to Dickinson, the racing theme expands the modification assets and envelops a highly technological process when it comes to the overall performance for the machine. In addition to the carbon fiber bodywork, features selected by this customer include a close ratio 6-speed gearbox with LSD, Ohlins suspension, a super lightweight motorsport spec electrical system, as well as a state-of-the-art engine management system and a Singer/Cosworth developed 360 bhp Porsche flat six normally aspirated engine – the heart of this incredible machine.
