Infiniti released today the first image with its all-new JX Concept, giving us a small preview of the new luxury crossover that will join its lineup next Spring. Launched at exactly 7:07 am, the car also announced the “Power of 7”, an innovative social media campaign designed to initiate conversation about the JX Concept. Infiniti also confirmed (again) the debut of the JX Concept on August 18 at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The “Power of 7” campaign will include a series of of seven images that will be distributed exclusively on Facebook (facebook.com/Infiniti) every Thursday over the next seven weeks. Moreover, the campaign could get you a trip for two to join Infiniti at the vehicle’s reveal at the Pebble Beach Concours.
“Families don’t have many luxury vehicle options today. The new Infiniti JX will be the 7-passenger antidote to the ho-hum luxury crossovers that are out there right now,” said Ben Poore, vice president of Infiniti Americas. Regarding the production version, the 2012 Infiniti JX crossover will be officially unveiled at the 2011 LA Auto Show, and will hit the dealerships in Spring of 2012.
Since Infiniti follows the principle of "Inspired Performance," the Infiniti JX is able to deliver an exciting drive which is balanced with fuel efficiency. This is made possible by having a V6 engine paired with either an all-wheel drive or a front-wheel drive. In addition, the JX will also be the first from the brand to have the fuel-efficient but sport-tuned continuously variable transmission or CVT. What the CVT does is once the drive selector is set to Sport mode, it copies the step transmission.
The production version of the Infiniti JX will make its official debut in November 2011 during the Los Angeles Auto Show. While the design of the exterior is indeed excellent, the Infiniti JX Concept is expected to shine in three areas that many luxury crossover buyers put a premium on. These are advanced hospitality features, roominess and flexibility of the interior, and of course, safety. Ben Poore, Vice President of Infiniti Americas, explained that when it comes to the luxury vehicle classes, one of the faster growing is the three-row luxury crossover.
As such, he added, this resulted in a big opportunity for Infiniti. Similar to what the brand has done every time it enters a new segment, it intends to put some changes in the status quo, he continued. Infiniti plans to do this by introducing a vehicle that is aimed at setting new standards when it comes to advanced telematics, hospitality, roominess, safety technologies, and style, Poore said further. When it comes to technologies, the brand has long been to known to develop some of the pioneer technologies and the JX is another proof of this. For example, while it has the Blind Spot Intervention feature, the Backup Collision Intervention has been added to it.
What this system does is when the transmission is put in reverse, it determines if any objects are crossing at the back of the vehicle. Once it detects that there is such an object, it helps in avoiding collision by immediately engaging its brakes. The technologies fitted inside are not only geared for safety but also aimed at being more efficient and easier. The hi-tech Infiniti Connection Telematics system, for instance, can synch the calendar of the owner automatically and give the needed navigation guidance to scheduled appointments.
Another interesting feature is the Infiniti Personal Assistant, which is the brand’s very own personal concierge service that allows drivers access to a live team of professional assistants for 24 hours a day. For those who want to listen to music, there is the Bose Studio Surround 14-speaker sound system that comes with the Waveguide bass technology. Owners will also get to experience the advantage of the Infiniti Personal Assistant which is available at no charge for every purchase of a 2012 Infiniti model.
Design is another highlight in the JX Concept as Nakamura explained that it manages to put forward the design language of the brand while sharing the Infiniti Essence concept’s design cues. What is different this time though, he added, was that these elements have been interpreted in a way that it meets the requirements of what a family wants from a luxury crossover. From the way the headlight and front grille had been designed to how the greenhouse has been formed and the crescent-cut D-pillar, the JX manages to come out as a bold and fresh option to the already stale choices that have dominated the three-row luxury crossover class, he said further.
The design of the interior is another highlight for the JX as it is projected to offer top-of-the-class roominess. The seats in the 2nd row have been designed in a way that it can slide forward and tilt in order to offer easy access to the 3rd row seats. VP Poore shared that the JX has the versatility and flexibility. An example of its second row that has a child seat latched to it while still being to enter and exit the third row. Even the third row, he added, has enough space where adults can sit comfortably as the 2nd row can be adjusted either forward or backwards by as much a 5.5 inches.
